Building Belonging at SLC
At St. Lawrence College, belonging isn’t just a word, it’s an experience we are continually shaping together. Recently, we had the opportunity to participate in a Belonging workshop with Carmen Law and Nathan Utioh, which provided a meaningful way to ground our students and open conversation about what belonging truly means.  The one-hour session invited students to reflect, create, and share. Using cards, markers, and creativity, they were asked to draw or write what belonging meant to them. The simple act of putting those thoughts on paper sparked powerful discussions. As students explored each other’s reflections, they began to notice the similarities and differences in how people define belonging—how it looks, feels, and grows. Dr. Laura Prociuk: SLC's own “Vet Without Borders”
While most people spend their summers relaxing, Dr. Laura Prociuk, professor in SLC’s Veterinary Technician program, packs her bags with veterinary supplies and heads to Tanzania, where her work and expertise can save lives, both animal and human.  Laura has spent many summers, sabbaticals, and leaves to providing crucial veterinary care in Tanzania, a country with a huge need for animal health services, particularly rabies control.
SLC Shoreline Restoration Project Moves Forward
Last September, students from the Environmental Technician program teamed up with members of the SLC community for another successful planting event along the shores of the St. Lawrence River on the Cornwall campus. This event marked the third phase of the ongoing Shoreline Restoration Project, a cornerstone of SLC’s sustainability strategy.
Reflecting on Indigenous Veterans Day
Each year on November 8, people across the country come together to observe Indigenous Veterans Day, a time to honour the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the Canadian Armed Forces.  For many, this day is not only about remembrance but also about reflection. Indigenous peoples have a long and proud history of military service, volunteering in great numbers during both World Wars, the Korean War, and peacekeeping missions around the world. They served with courage, skill, and deep commitment—often as scouts, snipers, and soldiers on the front lines. Yet when they returned home, many faced systemic discrimination and were denied the same recognition and veterans’ benefits as their non-Indigenous comrades.
