All members of the St. Lawrence College community have the right to study or work in an environment that is safe, secure and supportive. The College expects students to be responsible for conducting themselves in a manner that respects the rights of employees, other students and College property, in line with the SLC Student Code of Conduct.
What is the Student Code of Conduct?
When they enroll, every St. Lawrence College student agrees to follow the Student Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct outlines the rights and responsibilities of students, sets expectations for student behaviour, and explains possible consequences for not meeting those expectations.
The Code of Conduct applies to student behaviour that takes place:
- On campus or on College property
- During online or distance learning
- During College-sanctioned activities (e.g. club and sporting events)
- Off campus when representing the College (e.g. during placements)
- Off campus when it negatively impacts the rights or wellbeing of a College community member
What are my rights?
Students at SLC have many rights under the Code of Conduct, including:
- To express themselves individually or as part of a group
- To be free from discrimination and harassment
- To be treated with respect
- To have a safe and positive learning environment
What are my responsibilities?
SLC student responsibilities under the Code of Conduct include:
- Observing laws, the Ontario Human Rights code, and SLC policies
- Refraining from obstructing, interrupting or negatively impacting SLC activities and objectives
- Behaving in a way that keeps SLC free from harassment and discrimination
- Refraining from conduct that infringes on the rights of others (e.g. threatening a person’s safety or wellbeing, making unwelcome comments)
- Being honest in all academic and College matters
We all share responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and positive learning experience – for ourselves and for others.
