I Need Help

Here are some steps to take if you have been sexually assaulted:

1. Make sure you are safe from further harm.

  • If you are in danger or believe there is an ongoing threat to someone else, immediately call 911.
  • Go to a safe place. This might be the home or room of a friend or family member, residence staff, or any place where you feel safe and can receive emotional support.
  • For immediate help with safety planning, you can contact 911, Campus Security (available 24/7), or the 24/7 Crisis and Support Line. You can also reach out to the SRRO during business hours (8am-4pm, Mon-Fri) at SRRO@sl.on.ca or 613.544.5400 ext. 5532.

2. Seek medical care.

  • Attend your local hospital emergency room within 12 days of an assault for care and support:
  • You will have the choice to receive emergency medical care, testing for pregnancy or sexually transmitted illnesses, evidence collection, and other forms of care and support.
  • To help with evidence collection, try not to shower, bathe or use the washroom prior to a medical exam. If possible, you should also avoid changing, washing or destroying clothing, and avoid cleaning up the scene where the incident took place until evidence can be collected.

3. Access support services.

  • Contact the SRRO to learn about available supports and explore your options for next steps. SRRO staff are available from 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday, at SRRO@sl.on.ca or 613.544.5400 ext. 5532.
  • Check out our Get Support page for other support services available to you.

4. You can report your experience. Here are some reporting options:

  • To learn more about your options for filing a report, please contact the Student Rights & Responsibilities Office: SRRO@sl.on.ca or 613.544.5400 ext. 5532.
  • You can make a report to police:
  • Campus Security and Emergency Services can also help you make a report to the police or to the SRRO: 613.544.5400 ext. 5555.
