Fundraiser benefits Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre

A successful fundraising effort by Veterinary Assistant students recently raised $1246, as well as awareness for, the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee. On July 12 our students set up at two Pet Valu in Kingston locations to sell t-shirts, collect through donation jars, and also conducted a bottle drive. Sue Meech, director of SPWC, came to SLC for a presentation of funds on Wednesday July 23rd and spoke about SPWC.

Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre has been helping injured and orphaned wildlife (birds, mammals and some reptiles/amphibians) for nearly 20 years. The staff and volunteers work hard to rehabilitate and release these animals back into the wild. SPWC also offer valuable advice and assistance to people with problematic wildlife concerns by offering humane alternatives to help solve these conflicts. Although located in Napanee, Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre serves most of South Eastern Ontario. All funds for SPWC come from donations and fundraising efforts. They are currently in the midst of fund-raising for a new wildlife clinic.

This fundraising project is part of the Marketing and Communications course in the Veterinary Assistant program. The students have been working on this project since May.
