Fat Talk Free Week-This Week at Marianne van Silfhout Gallery

October 20, 2014

Fat Talk Free Week-This Week at Marianne van Silfhout Gallery, Brockville Campus

The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is pleased to have been selected as the venue for this year's Fat Talk Free Week. Events are Free and Everybody is Welcome. Fat Talk describes statements made in everyday conversation that reinforce unrealistic beauty and body ideals and that contribute to women and men’s dissatisfaction with their bodies.

“I’m so fat,” “Do I look fat in this?” Even seemingly positive messages can still be Fat Talk, such as: "You look great! Have you lost weight?" Fat Talk Free Week offers every"body" an opportunity to take the pledge to erase Fat Talk from their everyday lives.

Fat Talk Free Week Schedule:

  • Monday, October 20- 11:30am-1:30pm TAKE THE PLEDGE!
  • Wednesday, October 22- 12:00pm- 1:30:pm EVERY'BODY' YOGA!

Join us at the Marianne Van Silfhout Gallery for some positive Body Talk!

Fat Talk Free Week is a fun, international, 7-day public awareness effort to draw attention to body image issues and change our focus from size/weight to health.

About the Art Gallery

The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is a state-of-the-art community art gallery located at the front atrium of the Brockville campus of St. Lawrence College and is a focus for the visual arts for Brockville and the larger Eastern Ontario area. Creation of the gallery was made possible by the generous bequest from the Estate of Marianne van Silfhout, a graduate of the Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College, and other contributors to the St. Lawrence College Foundation.
