St. Lawrence College in a strong position for uncertain times

With full-time enrollment topping 6,200, St. Lawrence College continues to invest in its students, employees, and programs, all the while maintaining a balanced budget for 2012, which was approved by the Board of Governors last week.

Along with two new programs, Geothermal Engineering Technician and the reintroduction of a Business program on the Brockville campus, next year’s budget will see investments in Distance Education, customer service technology, the sustainability program, staff wellness programs, career and counseling services, and a new college website.

“We’re proud of our record of maintaining a healthy balance sheet,” said Chris Whitaker, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “This budget will ensure we stay strong as we head into an uncertain economic future in the province, while fulfilling our mandate to provide excellent and relevant education and training to our students.”

St. Lawrence College continues to come out ahead of the provincial averages in all Key Performance Indicators. In 2011, our Graduate Satisfaction rate was the highest in the province at 85.1 %. Other indicators show that we continue to lead the way:

- 88.1% of our graduates were satisfied with the usefulness of their college education in achieving their goals after graduation

- 95.5% of employers were satisfied with the quality of educational preparation of our graduates.

“The numbers say it all,” Whitaker said. “Our students, graduates, and employers tell us we’re doing a good job. We are confident we’re in a strong position to continue to meet the learning needs of our communities.”

The St. Lawrence College Board of Governors approved a $99.8 million budget at their March meeting. “The budget is balanced, while we continue to invest in critical areas of the college,” said Glenn Vollebregt, Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration at St. Lawrence.
