Exhibit shines spotlight on original works of art by Fine Arts students

BROCKVILLE, ON – St. Lawrence College is pleased to present "Creative Journeys", a juried exhibit of original artwork in varied disciplines by second-year students from the Fine Arts program. This exhibit will be on view at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on St. Lawrence College’s Brockville campus from March 29 to April 26, 2012. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, March 31 from 2 pm to 4 pm.

This collective statement from the students explains their vision: "We are a collective action of self-discovery, explored through the use of paint, assemblage, digital art, mixed media, performance and other creative mediums. Some of our narratives include music and art as outward meditation, fear and shadows, tranquility of nature, and the relation of humans to nature."

Through the close relationship between the Fine Arts program and the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery, students have multiple exhibition opportunities, such as the end-of-year exhibit for second-year students, and the opportunity to learn the business of art and curatorial aspects of art management. Exhibiting and working in the gallery provides real-world experience and opportunities to show and gain exposure in a state-of-the-art facility.

An exhibit of artwork by the Fine Arts program and Part-time Education faculty continues in the foyer gallery at St. Lawrence College until April 26, 2012. The artwork on display includes a variety of disciplines, such as paintings in all mediums, ceramics, sculpture, photography and printmaking.
