New exhibition a "JOY" to behold


St. Lawrence College is pleased to announce the fourth Annual Alumni Juried Show entitled "JOY". The exhibit will be on view at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus, November 4 to December 16, 2011.

Viewers to this years’ Alumni show will see a selection of paintings, sculpture and pottery by 13 artists – James Downe, Helen Fenton, Marian Forster, Heather Metcalfe-Griffith, Jyneen Horton, Crystal Letts, Katherine Lavender, Elaine McClintock, John McClintock, Jesse McMahon, Connie Porteous, Mary-Louise Scappaticci and Marilyn Yvonne White.

Concurrently in the foyer display cases adjacent to the gallery is an exhibit by the St. Lawrence College Part-Time ceramics students.Beautiful functional and decorative pottery will be on sale just in time for Christmas gift giving.

At the opening artist reception on December 1, students from the Music Theatre program will be on hand to perform live music. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample delicious cupcakes made by cake artist Kate Green. Kate uses her extensive art background and delicious recipes to create extraordinary edible works of art. Three talented artists will be receiving awards on this evening - "Best in Show", "Promising Young Artist", and the "Dean’s Choice ". The public has an opportunity to vote that evening for the "People’s Choice" award, the winner being announced at a later date. Also on view in the gallery will be a Christmas tree decorated with original "art" ornaments. The ornaments are the creations by members of the Fine Arts Alumni and the St. Lawrence College pottery students. Proceeds from the sale of the ornaments will be donated to the Children in Foster Homes Christmas Party put on by the Child and Youth Worker students, together with the Foster Family Association. Please join us at the gallery to embrace and celebrate the joy of creating art.

About the Art Gallery
The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is a state-of-the-art community art gallery located at the front atrium of the Brockville campus of St. Lawrence College and is a focus for the visual arts for Brockville and the larger Eastern Ontario area. Creation of the gallery was made possible by the generous bequest from the Estate of Marianne van Silfhout, a graduate of the Fine Art program at St. Lawrence College, and other contributors to the St. Lawrence Foundation.
