St. Lawrence College Graduates First Class in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Kingston)

(Kingston, June 9, 2009)  When St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus holds its Convocation ceremonies over three days this week, more than 1800 students will graduate from a wide range of programs including Energy Systems Engineering, Police Foundations, and Veterinary Technician. This year, 35 of these graduates will be the very first Kingston students to graduate from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The degree program is a collaborative four-year program offered by Laurentian University on all three campuses of St. Lawrence College.

Graduating nurse and class valedictorian Allison Kern describes her four years at St. Lawrence College as demanding and rewarding. "What puts this program over the top are the small class sizes and the hands-on clinical practice," she said. "I feel more than prepared for my career in health sciences now." Kern has already been hired as a public health nurse by Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Public Health.

"We are very proud of all our graduates today," said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO of St. Lawrence College. "Being able to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is of vital importance to the College and our communities. St. Lawrence College, in association with Laurentian University, is pleased to be able to meet this need."
