Student-edited book offers invaluable business advice to future grads

St. Lawrence College Business students coordinating the second volume of If I Knew Then are ready to launch the new book of interviews with business professionals. The book launch will take place on April 15, 2009 at St. Lawrence College in the Empire Board Room at 11:30 am.

The first volume was launched on February 20, 2008 and enjoyed incredible feedback from both students and local business groups. This second volume will offer new and interesting business advice for both new graduates, and those already working in their fields.

Working on this publishing project helped students develop communication skills, networking skills, and gave them a close look at the current work environment. "As a first-year business student, I found this assignment very beneficial. It forced us out of our comfort zone, and pushed us to develop our network," said Andrew Geekie, who interviewed Lynn Crowe from the Royal Bank of Canada. Andrew, who was also on the Editorial Board for Volume II said, "this book is very valuable for students who will learn what it takes to be successful in different industries."

"Hopefully this new edition will generate the same amount of buzz as the first and will be the start of a publishing tradition at St. Lawrence College," said Christina Decarie, project lead and communications professor at St. Lawrence College. "When I started collecting interviews back in 2007, it seemed a shame that these interviews went no further than me. Now the interviewing is a student project, giving them excellent training and the opportunity to experience the exact environment that is waiting after graduation."
