College Overview

St. Lawrence College (SLC) is a public college located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1967, and it has since grown to become one of the largest colleges in the province. The college has three campuses: Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall, and it offers more than 100 programs and has more than 100,000 alumni worldwide. St. Lawrence College offers an English as a Second Language Leadership Summer Program for international students who wish to develop their leadership and English skills within a Canadian cultural context. This program features interactive English classes and opportunities to participate in unique leadership opportunities. Through immersive and experiential learning, students will have a memorable intercultural experience and gain a global perspective in their field.

Program Features

Building Leadership Skills

Developing leadership skills requires self-reflection and a commitment to ongoing personal growth and development. It involves taking the initiative to identify areas of strength and weakness, seeking feedback from others, and working to improve skills through practice, education, and experience.

This leadership program will allow you to develop:

  • Effective communication and decision-making abilities
  • Effective time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Effective delegation and negotiation skills
  • Effective intercultural communication skills

By developing strong leadership skills, individuals can become more effective in their roles and inspire others to achieve their full potential. This can lead to greater success in personal and professional endeavors, as well as more meaningful and fulfilling relationships with others.

Building Intercultural Capacity

An important part of being an effective leader is having an understanding and appreciation for the beliefs, values, and perspectives of diverse cultures. Strong leaders can communicate effectively across cultural differences, including the ability to recognize and adapt to different communication styles and norms.

The leadership program includes opportunities to:

  • Build intercultural awareness
  • Enhance intercultural capacity through experiential learning
  • Develop intercultural communication and collaboration skills
  • Expand cultural self-awareness through reflection and self-examination

By building intercultural capacity, individuals and organizations can become more effective in their interactions with people from diverse cultures, including colleagues, customers, and clients.

English Training

In parallel with developing your leadership and intercultural skills, you will participate in the English language classes. Your English language skills will be enhanced through our integrated curriculum using engaging and authentic materials. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice your speaking skills through building public speaking techniques, participating in group discussions and projects.  

Your English classes will include:

  • Guest Lectures from leaders in the community
  • Field trips to various local organizations
  • Public speaking training and practice
  • Projects to demonstrate your leadership skills

Program requirements

  • Students must be minimum 18 years old and have English level B1 /Intermediate Level
  • Students are required to bring their laptops for classes

Program Dates

Two-week Option: July 8 – July 19, 2024

Three-week Option: August 6– August 23, 2024

Residence Accommodation

The Kingston campus offers safe, secure, convenient, and affordable housing overlooking the campus and Lake Ontario Park. The residence rooms are both double and single occupancy.
