Overview
This certificate provides basic skills in the major areas of personnel administration, human resources planning, job analysis, interviewing, compensation and benefits, personnel testing, performance appraisal, industrial relations and collective bargaining.
The college has worked closely with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) in the development of the Human Resources program. The HRPA will grant credits towards the academic requirements of the professional designation of Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). To obtain this certificate, student must successfully complete nine (9) compulsory courses.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- For your convenience, some courses are offered both in-class and online. Some online courses can be started at different times throughout the semester, just choose the course date that fits your schedule.
- The demand for part-time courses has increased to the point that we recommend you register early to ensure your acceptance into the course.
- Online courses are easily identified by CS at the beginning of the course code (i.e. CSSE 65 Accounting Basics 1)
- Textbooks and additional materials may be required for these courses. YOU are responsible for purchasing your textbooks for all courses. Please make a note of your course code (CS##) and see the bottom of this page for book order procedure.

This course focuses on developing students' knowledge of all aspects of labor relations. Students learn about the impact of a unionized workplace on the Human Resources department. Students explore trade unions, collective agreements, negotiations, union/management relations, strikes, the collective bargaining process, and conflict resolution. Student learning is reinforced through practical involvement in case study analysis.

Requirements
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the program must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or the equivalent or must qualify for mature student status (19 years of age or older).
Career Opportunities
Graduates from the program may find employment as human resources generalist, compensation consultant, human resources planner, labour relations advisor, employment equity coordinator, training and development officer, and employee relations consultant.
Other Information
As of January 1, 2011, applicants to the CHRP designation must have a university degree. Individuals without a university degree must have completed the academic requirements by Fall 2010 in order to write the National Knowledge Exam prior to January 1, 2011.
