Tuition Assistance Reimbursement Policy

This St. Lawrence College employee policy has been developed to better support College staff with their professional development and training needs, and give them the ability to apply for financial assistance towards a post secondary credential such as a diploma or degree.

This policy provides College employees with financial support in acquiring professional designations, certificates, diplomas and degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level. The credential must be obtained through a post secondary institution or approved professional institution. To qualify for tuition assistance, the employee must demonstrate that the educational credential to be received will lead to better service in meeting the needs of St. Lawrence students, clearly support the strategic directions of the College, and assist the employees in achieving their professional development and long-term career goals.

Guiding Principles for this Policy

  • The credential program being sought will support the employee’s long-term career goals and be aligned with the College’s Strategic Directions.
  • Long term-career development is a benefit to both the employee and the College and financial commitment and support is a shared responsibility.


Q: When will the Tuition Assistance Reimbursement Program be available?

A: Funding will be available in the Fiscal Year beginning April 1, 2015 and applications can be submitted in March 2015.

Q: How much tuition assistance support will be available to the employee?

A: A maximum financial support of up to $2,000 per year, based on a 50% - 50% cost sharing between the employee and the College will be available.

Q: Is there a limit to how much support an employee can receive towards a credential?

A: There is no "life-time" limit, however, there is a limit of $2,000 in any one year period (based on fiscal year April 1 – March 31).

Q: Do I receive the funds in advance of the training and education?

A: No, this is a "reimbursement" program that requires the employee to register and be accepted into a qualifying program. The employee must pay the tuition fees and then "successfully" complete the course/program. Following successful completion of each course towards the credential the employee can submit receipts for reimbursement.
