POSITION SUMMARY

The Alumni Database & Communications Student Assistant, under the supervision of the Manager of Advancement Services, Alumni & Development, plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Alumni & Development department. The student incumbent works up to 12 hours per week, to gain valuable work experience in database management, communications, and general office administration. The role will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in database management, communications, and office administration within a dynamic Alumni & Development environment. By demonstrating initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting alumni engagement initiatives, the student assistant will contribute to the department's mission of fostering meaningful connections with alumni and donors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Assist in updating and maintaining the alumni database, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Learn to utilize database software efficiently to support alumni engagement efforts and fundraising activities.
  • Administrative Support: Perform administrative tasks to support departmental operations, including filing, data entry, and document preparation. Develop organizational skills and attention to detail through office administration responsibilities.
  • Digital Engagement and Communications: Support digital engagement initiatives for alumni and donors, including creating and scheduling social media posts, drafting newsletters, and assist coordinating virtual (or in-person) events

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Confidentiality: Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Self-Motivated: Demonstrated initiative and proactive approach to tasks.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, with a keen interest in St. Lawrence College.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel: Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Interpersonal and Computer Skills: Well-developed skills in communication and computer usage.
  • Excellent Writing Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in written communication.
  • Data Analytics Skills: Knowledge of data analytics is beneficial.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Proven skills in creative thinking and innovation.
  • Graphic Design Skills: Experience in graphic design is advantageous.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects effectively.
  • Video Production: Skills in video production are beneficial.
  • Strong Marketing Understanding: Experience in digital marketing, advertising, and social media is advantageous.

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 12.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
