POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Biotechnology Lab Assistant on the Kingston Campus reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, will work up to 12-hours per week. This position will assist the Biotechnology Advanced support staff in general duties required to keep the laboratories running smoothly, support the SLC student learning experience and applied sciences technical support staff in laboratory care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in lab maintenance (clean-up/disposal of supplies, equipment maintenance/troubleshooting, lab stocking and solution and media preparation).
  • Assists in applied sciences technology labs
  • Provides support for the facilitation of student engagement programming and events on campus.
  • Actively participate and staff committees as necessary and appropriate.
  • Performs other miscellaneous, related duties as assigned by the designate, with occasional duties specific to special functions (e.g., orientation or open house events, workshops, awards dinners).

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management and attention to detail.
  • Adaptable with the ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, and collaboratively with a team.
  • Must have completed the first year of the Biotechnology Advanced program and be registered full time in the Biotechnology Advanced program.
  • Immunizations for program of study must be up to date
  • Understanding of standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Teams, & Email).

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 12.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
  • Must sign and abide by St. Lawrence College’s Confidentiality Agreement.
