TRANSFER CREDITS
At St. Lawrence College, we recognize that students may have completed eligible post-secondary coursework before beginning their program. Transfer credits provide an opportunity to have previous learning assessed and, where appropriate, applied toward your program requirements!
Use the information below to learn about transfer credit eligibility, application requirements, supporting documentation, deadlines, and important considerations before submitting your request.
What are transfer credits?
Transfer credits recognize learning completed at another accredited post-secondary institution or through previous studies at St. Lawrence College.
If an eligible course is determined to be equivalent to a course in your current program, you may receive transfer credit and be exempt from completing that course at St. Lawrence College.
Transfer credits may be awarded for:
- Courses completed at another post-secondary institution (External Transfer Credits)
- Courses completed at St. Lawrence College (Internal Transfer Credits)
- General Education courses
- Completed undergraduate degrees through the Undergraduate Degree Bulk Transfer Credit process
What Types of Transfer credits are available?
If you have completed courses at another accredited post-secondary institution, you may apply to transfer those credits toward your current St. Lawrence College program.
Eligibility Requirements
Courses must:
- Demonstrate at least 80% equivalency to the St. Lawrence College course learning outcomes, as determined by a subject matter expert.
- Have a minimum grade of 60% (C-), or the passing grade required for the St. Lawrence College course, whichever is higher.
- Have been completed within the last five (5) years.
Eligibility requirements vary depending on the type of transfer credit being requested. Review the sections below to determine if your previous studies may qualify.
Students transferring between St. Lawrence College programs may be eligible to transfer credits previously completed at the College. For identical courses shared between programs, transfer credit may be granted automatically, depending on the grade achieved and when the course was completed. For non-identical courses, students may apply for transfer credit review.
Eligibility Requirements
Courses must:
- Demonstrate at least 80% equivalency to the St. Lawrence College course learning outcomes, as determined by a subject matter expert.

- Have been completed within the last five (5) years.

The degree must:
- Be from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Have been completed within the last 10 years.

It depends on the type of transfer credit:
- External Transfer Credits satisfy course requirements but do not contribute to your St. Lawrence College GPA and are recorded on your transcript as a “T” (Transfer Credit) grade.
- Internal Transfer Credits will transfer with the original St. Lawrence College grade achieved, which will be included in your current program record and GPA calculation.
Transfer credit applications are reviewed by the Pathways Coordinator and course equivalencies are determined by a subject matter expert based on the learning outcomes of the course.
Transfer credit requests may be denied for several reasons, including:
- Insufficient course equivalency
- Minimum grade requirements not met
- Course completed outside the eligibility timeframe
- Missing or insufficient documentation
