POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, the student incumbent works up to 12-hours per week providing assistance in greeting and guiding customers and performing limited administrative related tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer-service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.

 The incumbent will provide assistance in the execution of small development projects and perform limited administrative tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the Student Placement Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports staffing of department area during scheduled work times, providing a high level of customer service handling requests or concerns, and answering questions whether in person, by phone or email, fostering relationship within the College community and outside community partners.
  • Assists with administrative-related tasks, including updating or entering data into specific systems for accurate, reliable record, and retrieval systems.
  • Ensure all legislated privacy requirements e.g. PIPA, PHIPA. 
  • Assist with reviewing and updating Blackboard requirements for multiple programs tri-campus, record and track student placement information, complete fillable PDF’s, mail merges, send student reminders, and prepare reports when required.
  • Attends meetings when requested.
  • Aids in the implementation of new projects, providing project ideas, and working with existing project plans.
  • Assist in dealing with occasional disrespectful users through escalating conflict to department manager / designate.
  • Performs other miscellaneous, related duties as assigned by the designate, with occasional duties specific to special functions e.g., orientation or open house events, awards dinners.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, and collaboratively with a team.
  • Understanding of, and ability to demonstrate, the principles of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
  • High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 12.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
