POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, the student incumbent works up to 12-hours per week (may include evenings and/or weekends) providing assistance in greeting and guiding customers and performing limited administrative related tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer-service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.

The Student Leadership Assistant supports tri-campus leadership development and co-curricular programming initiatives. This position assists in organizing and facilitating workshops, events, processes, and activities that enhance student engagement and provide out-of-classroom learning opportunities through the St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER). The incumbent supports the Student Engagement team by planning, researching, marketing, and coordinating events and activities for the Academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing leadership development workshops and events that fall within co-curricular programming
  • Promote the St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER) through various channels, including URSLC, social media, email, and on-campus methods
  • Support the development of marketing materials and outreach strategies to increase student participation and awareness of SER
  • Provide administrative support, such as maintaining records, tracking recognized activities, managing event check-ins, and preparing reports
  • Collaborate with campus departments and student governments to enhance awareness and adoption of the St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER)
  • Facilitate small group discussions and activities during workshops and events. May support student-focus groups and surveying
  • Gather feedback from students to assess event/workshop effectiveness and suggest improvements
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new initiatives to support student leadership and engagement
  • Assist with the production of marketing materials and resources
  • Provide support for marketing student events, training sessions, groups, and more
  • Manage URSLC events, book venues, and order marketing materials
  • Broaden networking to benefit Student Engagement and co-curricular programming
  • Actively participate and staff committees as necessary and appropriate
  • On occasion may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, such as special functions (i.e., orientation, convocation, open house, awards dinners, etc.) 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, and collaboratively with a team.
  • Strong presentation and networking skills
  • Understanding of standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
  • High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times. 

 Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location and work temporarily from a remote location with reliable internet access, as approved by the College and in accordance with the college’s Telework Policy.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 15

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
