POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Health Activity Center (SHAC) & Recreation Student Staff on Kingston Campus works under the supervision of the Athletics & Student Engagement department. The positions assists the department with a variety of programs and services which include general SHAC operations, group fitness class support, student recreation programs/events, new student transition events, and other college supported events. They are responsible for monitoring and providing assistance to those who use the SHAC as well as day to day cleaning duties of the SHAC. These students will also be required to perform event support at a variety of recreation events and are a part of the planning for events. The SHAC Student Staff is a visible front-line position that promotes school spirit and student engagement with their positive and helpful attitude in order to meet the goal of providing students with the best possible college experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise clients and prepare the SHAC for daily use, while enforcing all facility rules accordingly and performing daily maintenance, facility up-keep, and repairs as required
- Provide excellent customer service for all users, potential users and visitors to the SHAC
- Provide support to intramural and recreation programming, including serving in a convener role (scheduling referees, inputting results, etc.)
- Provide support to other Student Life programming & events (SLC Ready, Orientation Day, SNAP, RecFest, Bell Let’s Talk Day, etc.)
- Perform other related tasks or departmental projects as assigned by Athletics & Student Engagement Staff
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Adaptable, strong leadership qualities and possess problem solving skills
- Time management, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, or collaboratively as part of a team.
- General knowledge of standard computer applications (MS word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
- High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Ontario Fitness Council Resistance Training Certification
- Must be authoritative and able to handle disrespectful users
- Self-starter with a positive attitude, committed to teamwork
- Able to work days, weeknights and weekends
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements:
The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.
SALARY AND TERMS:
Start Rate: $17.60/hour, plus 6% in lieu of vacation (Refer to PT support grid)
Hours per week: up to 12

Terms of Employment:
- Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
- Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
