POSITION SUMMARY

As an Academic Advising Assistant, you’ll work closely with the Academic Advising team on a variety of engaging projects that directly impact student retention, engagement, and success. This is an excellent opportunity to build your communication, organization, and administrative skills in a supportive, professional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Support

  • Help electronically organize lists of campus and community supports, services, and referrals
  • Assist in creating digital and hardcopy quick-reference materials like referral emails, posters, or pamphlets
  • Provide wayfinding and drop-in support during peak advising times of the semester

Retention Programming

  • Contribute to First 8 Weeks programming by helping design workshops and learning resources for Advisors to deliver to new and returning students
  • Support college events such as Smart Start, SNAP, and Open House

Academic Advising Projects

  • Help create and update internal training resources (e.g., team manuals)
  • Develop and organize a central hub for advising materials (e.g., program considerations, prerequisite info)
  • Confirm programs of study and their associated prerequisites
  • Assist with updating Ontario Learn course equivalents from Program Coordinators

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic digital tools (e.g., Google Drive, Canva, or similar)
  • High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 12.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
  • Must sign and abide by St. Lawrence College’s Confidentiality Agreement.
