Civil Engineering Tech Assistant

Job Description

Incumbent reports to the department manager, and under the guidance of the designate, will work up to 35 hours per week (may include evenings and/or weekends), providing assistance in the execution of small development projects and performing limited administrative tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the re-writing of some lab handouts / procedures
  • Set-up, organize, and repair testing equipment
  • Collect and prepare soil samples
  • Convert some of the course material to electronic format
  • Reorganize storage cabinets / labs
  • Various responsibilities within labs (repair, moving and lifting, clean-up, etc.)
  • Computer / Autocad work
  • Prepare specimens for lab testing
  • On occasion may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, such as special functions (i.e., orientation, convocation, open house, awards dinners, etc.)

  • Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, and collaboratively with a team.
  • Understanding of standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
  • Understanding of, and ability to demonstrate, the principles of confidentiality

terms of employment

  • Rate of pay: $16.55 / hour (plus 6% vacation pay).
  • This position falls under the provisions of Student Employees in the Full-time Support Staff Collective Agreement and is subject to union dues.
  • The student must be currently enrolled at St. Lawrence College.
  • The student must be in good academic standing and sign a confidentiality statement.
