POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Employment and Career Services and under the guidance of a designated supervisor, the Career Services Student Assistant will work up to 12 hours per week. This position involves greeting and guiding students, performing student outreach, administrative tasks, and supporting the operations of the department. This role provides an opportunity to gain work experience while enhancing the services provided by Career Services. 

The incumbent will provide assistance in the execution of small development projects and perform limited administrative tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the departmentAdditionally, the incumbent will have a demonstrated interest in career readiness topics and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and update the Career Services Group in the URSLC app: Create events, track registrations, check in students, create and send event reminders and follow-up emails to participants 
  • Organize and attend Career Services student outreach activities on campus including information booths and identify other opportunities to connect with students.
  • Create and post social media content to Career Services Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn channels.
  • Communicate with job-seeking students, providing an overview of the SLC job board and other job search tools and resources.
  • Aids in the implementation of new and existing projects, providing ideas and feedback from a student lens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the activities of Career Services and other Student Success teams.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Understanding of, and ability to demonstrate, the principles of confidentiality.
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of career-readiness concepts and an interest in building knowledge in this area.
  • Adept with Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Canva, URSLC, slc.me

Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: 

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

Salary & Terms

  • Start Rate: $17.60/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
  • Hours per week: 12.00

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College OR returning to Full-Time studies in the immediate upcoming semester.
  • Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
