Zack Boivin

Designer Bio

I’m Zack, I am a graphic designer who is heavily interested in brand identity, UI design, and poster work in this field. I have always been interested in design but never realized it was something I wanted to pursue until I got to college. I took a starting course called Media Art Fundamentals (MAF) which kicked off this journey for design. Outside of this, I am very interested in music and video editing/3D modelling. These are things I am not only actively watching/listening to but attempting to learn to make for myself as well.

Course

Typography II

Objective

Create a poster for a World Day that is sponsored by FontWorks and Kabel LT Std. Reach the target audience effectively and cleanly.

Description

For this poster, I embraced a flowing but structured feeling to embrace poetry itself. The background design features a flowing abstract illustration to tie it all together. Blue was used as it is a lighter and more peaceful tone for this subject, carrying the elegance from poetry into the entire poster. Here you also see some rough thumbnails and word marks, these are part of my creative process and show where my first ideas were and what ideas I leaned on to reach this final stage and completed the project.

Course

Interactive Design IV

Objective

Design an interactive application around a topic of your choice that is exploratory, informative, and educational. This app must create a new way to interact with the topic.

Description

For this application, I created a fresh way to view the solar system we live in, the Milky Way. This app provides a new and captivating way to view the planets to scale in a 3D environment while providing lots of accurate and informative information for those wanting to learn. From zooming out and seeing the entire system to scale, all the way to seeing the insides of each planet/star and being able to see what orbits them.

Course

Final Portfolio

Objective

Revisit an old project and improve on it with the skills I have learned and refined over the course of 3 years in the Graphic Design program. I have revisited a project where I created a brand and website for said brand.

Description

This website is based on a company I have made up called Vision. This company offers high-quality, designer-grade furniture at an affordable price. I have also designed their logo and did some advertising via a billboard page at the bottom to showcase brand identity work. For the website itself and the brand image, the idea behind the colours was a classic and modern feel that gives a sense of higher “fashion” in furniture to support the idea of high-quality work.
