SLC is thrilled to announce the introduction of an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program, supported by a $500,000 investment announced by the Ontario government to enhance nursing education delivery across the province. The enhanced program will be available across all three SLC campuses addressing critical nursing workforce needs while providing students with innovative learning technologies.

The accelerated BScN builds upon the College’s existing nursing programs and allows the students to complete the program in three-and-a-half years instead of four, allowing graduates to enter the workforce earlier.

The program will also incorporate advanced virtual reality (VR) software to provide immersive and interactive learning environments. This technology allows students to practice clinical skills in realistic, risk-free settings, improving theoretical knowledge, and practical skills. The program also will utilize a mixture of in-person, hybrid, online asynchronous, and synchronous courses.

"The ability to offer an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program reflects our commitment to addressing the growing demand for skilled, compassionate nurses in today’s health-care environment. We are excited to offer virtual reality in this enhanced curriculum to provide students with an immersive experience to hone their skills," said Laralea Stalkie, Associate Dean, School of Nursing, St. Lawrence College.

“We are grateful to the Ontario government for providing funding for the accelerated BScN program, enhancing our existing excellent nursing education and programs,” said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. “The funds represent a significant investment in nursing education and workforce development, positioning our graduates to enter the healthcare field sooner, equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical experience. College-educated nurses help meet the incredible demand for trained professionals in healthcare settings throughout our region – a demand SLC is proud to help meet.”
