St. Lawrence College works with other educational institutions to provide exchange opportunities for SLC students. These exchange programs allow students to study abroad for either a single term or a full academic year. Depending on your program and the destination institution, you will be eligible for either a full- or partial-credit transfer. The College also offers a Global Learning Bursary to support your participation in an exchange program.

Getting started
- Step 1: Read the information about exchange programs at SLC. Book an appointment with the Global Learning Centre and confirm your eligibility.
- Step 2: Explore the different opportunities. Consider and research your options and discover where and how long you would like to study abroad.
- Step 3: Apply to your selected program and pay attention to the application deadline.
How to Apply
- Step 1: Fill out and sign the Global Learning Form. You will need to get approval from your Program Coordinator.
- Step 2: Provide a written personal statement (max. 300 words) including how the exchange program you are applying to fits with your academic and career aspirations, and how you will apply global/intercultural skills in your chosen field.
- Step 3: After you have filled out and signed the Global Learning Form and finalized your Personal Statement, submit these to the online Global Learning Application.
- Step 4: Selected applicants will be nominated to their Institution of interest. Additional documents may be required to complete the admission process at the destination institution.
All students who will take study abroad opportunities need to complete the mandatory course: Global and Intercultural Learning at SLC (GIL). Once you are nominated and been accepted by the partner institution, you will be automatically enrolled in this course on Blackboard. A Staff from the Global Learning Centre will connect with you and guide you on what you need to complete prior to departure.

Students must be in a full-time program with a minimum GPA of 2.5 to participate in an exchange program.
Yes! International students can go on exchange as long as you meet the general eligibility requirements. Please remember that while you are away, you will still need to be paying full-time tuition fees to SLC.
You can choose to go on for one semester or one academic year. Universities or Colleges around the world can have different semester schedules. Please make sure you check the semester dates for the institutions you are thinking of going to ensure that you are able to return on time for the next semester.
It depends on your program. Some programs may receive the full transfer credits, some programs may not. Please consult with your program coordinator or the staff at the Global Learning Centre. It is better to plan early if you are considering doing an exchange.
- Identify the courses that you are interested in and will fit with your program of study. Discuss with your program coordinator if necessary.
- Obtain the course syllabus/outlines from the partner institutions.
- Fill out the credit transfer form and submit the form and the course outlines to the Registrar's Office.

This depends on the country you are going to. Your tuition fees are paid to SLC, you do not need to pay additional tuition fees at the destination institution. You will be responsible for all other exchange-related costs such as an application fee, airfare, textbooks, accommodation and health insurance. Some universities also offer bursaries and on-campus work opportunities for exchange students to help with the living costs. With proper planning, the cost of an exchange can be at the same level if not cheaper than living in Canada.
We recommend at least one year prior to departure. Different universities may have different deadlines.
Many universities offer residence, or student apartments, or homestay. You can check the website for the host institutions you are interested in to see what accommodations they offer.
The majority of our exchange programs offer programs in English including the countries where English is not an official language.
