SLC offers a Global Learning Bursary to support several Global Learning Opportunities. These opportunities include:
- Faculty-led program
- Semester-long or short-term exchange at an international partner institution
- In-person or virtual courses, or work placements that provide a global learning experience
How do I apply?
- If you are interested in the faculty-led program, please submit a faculty-led program application. Your application will be automatically assessed for Global Learning Bursary.
- If you are interested in an exchange, overseas work placement and other global learning opportunities, you will submit a Global Learning Bursary Application along with a Budget Estimate Form

Current full-time SLC students (domestic or international) enrolled in a certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, degree, or graduate certificate academic program. A minimum GPA of 2.0 as per SLC Study Abroad Policy (please, see Policy Centre on your SLC.me portal).
- Technology or supplies required to participate in virtual opportunities
- Travel costs such as airfare, ground transportation, and accommodations.
- Immunizations and COVID testing, if required
- Passport and visa applications
- Travel and health insurance
- Meal allowance
- Academic Activity fee required to participate in the in-person and/or virtual program
Special note: if you are accepted in the faculty-led program, your academic activity fee is covered. Global Learning Bursary will cover other eligible expenses.
- Personal spending
- Personal cell phone plans/costs
- Activities outside of the program requirement
- For faculty-led program, you may receive up to $1600 as additional financial support from the Global Learning Bursary, as well as childcare supplement if applicable. Your faculty-led program application will be assessed for Global Learning Bursary. You do not need to submit a separate application.
- If you are participating in an in-person or virtual course or work placement, you will submit a Global Learning Bursary Application, including a budget estimate (download the budget form). Based on your needs and available funding which may change year over year, the bursary award will normally cover 50% of the total cost, to the maximum amount listed below.

The intake is open throughout the year. However, the bursary will be awarded twice a year – October and February.
- After you are approved for funding, you are required to complete the following before receiving the bursary.
(1) Complete the pre-departure modules on Blackboard. Global Learning Centre staff will contact you and outline the next steps.
(2) Provide relevant proof, such as booked flights, accommodations, and receipt of the program fee.
- Once you fulfill the requirements, SLC will post the Global Learning Bursary on your student account. Please note: the College may pay some upfront costs using this bursary and will refund the students the difference in the form of a cheque.
- If you were not able to travel and had to cancel the program, the bursary will also be cancelled. You must notify SLC as soon as possible.
- Students are required to obtain adequate travel insurance and seek refunds if they have incurred costs prior to the trip.
