POSITION SUMMARY:

The Subject Lead Tutor, Math and Science reports to the Manager of Libraries and Learning Commons and serves as the liaison with faculty and faculty team with regards to the subject area of math and science. The incumbent provides team leadership to ensure subject-specific best practices in tutoring are explored and implemented and collaborates with faculty and Associate Deans closely to assess needs and provide effective tutoring services. The tasks include facilitating student learning by providing tutoring services through drop-in, appointment, pre-scheduled tutorials as supplemental instruction. In providing tutoring services, the incumbent works with students in reviewing course concepts and provides feedback to help students learn and improve their understanding of the course concepts.

The Learning Services and Tutoring Lead must have expertise in the following subject areas:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Accounting

    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Mathematics or Physics.
    • Minimum of 3 years of teaching or tutoring experience.
    • Experience working in a post-secondary educational environment.
    • Experience organizing promotional activities.
    • Experience working with diverse clients.

    Other Required Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of a variety of teaching techniques and learning styles
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
    • Excellent teamwork skills

    Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements:

    The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.

    • Start Rate:             $28.97 /hour
