POSITION SUMMARY
St. Lawrence College is seeking experienced and motivated professional who share St. Lawrence College’s vision to be a globally recognized college, delivering innovative learning opportunities and preparing career-ready graduates to be leaders in their field.
St. Lawrence College is currently seeking qualified Professors on a part-time basis with experience and expertise in the Personal Support Worker program.
We are seeking an individual experienced to teach in the following course, within the Personal Support Worker program:
PSWO 1600: Human Body Structure and Function
This course introduces the student to the basic structure and function of the human body throughout the lifespan. Topics will include basic anatomy, medical terminology, physiology, nutritional needs, hygiene, the importance of body mechanics, and infection control. Through various activities, discussions, testing, students will gain a greater understanding of the human body.
PSWO 1700: Communication and Professionalism
This course develops professional communication and interpersonal skills essential for Personal Support Workers (PSWs). Students learn to interact effectively with clients, caregivers, supervisors, and colleagues through theory, role plays, and practical activities. Through various assessments, an emphasis is placed on clarity, self-awareness, and professionalism in both oral and written communication.
PSWO 1701: End of Life Care
This course focuses on the role of Personal Support Workers in palliative and end-of-life care. Topics include the history of palliative care, the roles of various team members, and the physical and emotional impacts at the end of life and the grieving processes on clients, families, and caregivers. Through various assessments including case studies and personal reflections, students will develop self-awareness and a deeper understanding of all aspects of palliative and end of life care.
PSWO 1801 & PSWO 1804: PSW Clinical Practice
This course provides students with hands on experience within a healthcare setting. Students apply previously learned knowledge to provide safe, organized care to assist the individual with activities of daily living.
These positions will be primarily located at the Kingston, Brockville or Cornwall Campuses; however, occasional travel to support programs on other campuses may be requested. Candidates may be required to teach from an online/alternate delivery format on occasion. Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The responsibilities of St. Lawrence College Professors include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse culture and educational backgrounds, experience and individual learning preferences;
- Effectively use educational and advanced technologies, and digital learning methodologies to enhance the student learning experience;
- Developing curriculum that is appropriately designed and uses evidence-based tools and strategies to support and assess student learning;
- Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant with a lens on the future;
- Working effectively with learners, colleagues, program and interdisciplinary teams as well as internal and external partners;
- Effectively use the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to build a contemporary and evidenced based practice.
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
Qualifications
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / DESIGNATION:
- Education Specific to the position: A minimum of a two-year nursing diploma is required.
- Experience specific to the position: A minimum of 5 years of practical and current experience in healthcare and working with PSW’s.
- Knowledge or Skills specific to the position: Knowledge of PSW best practices and experience in long-term care and community settings. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current membership in the Registered Practical Nurses’ Association or Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, and the Canadian Nurses’ Association. Current certification in CPR. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of current trends in nursing practice. Demonstrated ability to teach the entry-level practitioner in the classroom and/or lab settings. A history of professional reflective practice, scholarship and peer-reviewed publications will be required for the ongoing success of the candidate.
- Teaching experience using a Learning Management System and virtual meeting technology system.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level or experience in adult instructions techniques and practice using principles of andragogy and curriculum design experience will be required.
- A demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
- Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research will be an asset.
- A proven track record of life-long learning.
- A demonstrated commitment to putting “students first”.
- Candidates are requested to list all St. Lawrence College teacher training or equivalent they possess on their resume.
- A global mindset and intercultural knowledge and competence to teach in a global environment including international students is required.
- An understanding of the Ontario college system.

Candidates who do not meet the specified education but who possess a relevant and acceptable combination of education, training, and a depth of industry experience may be considered.
Candidates seeking faculty positions with the College will be required to demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and universal design in learning (UDL). An ongoing commitment to professional learning will be expected.
Successful candidates are expected to have their own computer, reliable internet connection, and the ability to teach remotely or on Campus, as may be required. The use of virtual meetings through video conferencing software will be required in this role. Professors are also expected to possess or develop proficiency in the use of a Learning Management Software (LMS) to a degree that meets academic standards.
All Professors will be provided with support by the School of Contemporary Teaching and Learning in their onboarding and orientation to teach at St. Lawrence College. Support and coaching is provided to new faculty to provide a strong theoretical foundation of teaching and learning, and to orient them to the teaching tools and strategies required for teaching in a contemporary and modern learning institution. Salary & Terms
Salary and Terms: $80.62 – $139.88 hourly base rate. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
