Duties

St. Lawrence College invites applications from qualified individuals to facilitate fully online courses offered through OntarioLearn. These courses have been fully developed for online asynchronous delivery and use Blackboard as the learning management system.

Candidates will be hired on a part-time contract to facilitate a specific course but can also be added to a selection pool for future offerings. OntarioLearn course offerings may be cancelled prior to the start of the semester due to low enrollment but candidates may be considered for future semester offerings. Courses typically start in September, January, and May but monthly intakes may also become available based on enrolment trends.

This current call of interest includes courses starting in September 2022 but will also be used to collect interested candidates for future offerings.

Current Opportunities:

Taxation 1 (CSSL68)

Course design is a constantly evolving field with new technologies and trends continuing to emerge. This course explores current design trends and educational technology as they apply to instructional and course design. Students analyze the strengths, weaknesses, and application of specific approaches.

Multimedia for eLearning Developers (CSSL96)

There is abundant research demonstrating that not all students learn the same way and therefore it is important to cater to a variety of modalities when designing online educational materials. By identifying the purpose of multimedia design, students will create a short learning unit that demonstrates their understanding of best practices and skills in audio, video, and graphic design. Students will also learn copyright law as it pertains to educational use of materials.

  • Business (specialization in marketing, social media marketing, or taxation)

An inventory of candidates interested in facilitating online courses will be created and retained for a period of one year.

      EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / DESIGNATION:

      1. Educations Specific to the position: A Master’s degree in the related discipline and possess sufficient content knowledge to respond to student inquiries.
      2. Experience specific to the position: Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and significant experience within the field/discipline will be considered.
      3. Teaching experience using a Learning Management System (preferably Blackboard) and other digital learning tools.
      4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level or experience in adult instructions techniques and practice using principles of andragogy and curriculum design experience will be required.
      5. A demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
      6. A proven track record of life-long learning.
      7. A demonstrated commitment to putting “students first”.
      8. A global mindset and intercultural knowledge and competence to teach in a global environment including international students is required.
      9. Successful candidates are expected to model and promote our College values of: Students First, Teamwork, Innovation, Integrity and Belonging.

      Candidates who do not meet the education specified but who possess a relevant and acceptable combination of education, training, and a depth of industry experience may be considered.

      Successful candidates are expected to have their own computer, reliable internet connection, and the ability to teach remotely. The use of virtual meetings through video conferencing software may be required in this role.

      Salary and Terms: Hourly Salary Range will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
