About the Exhibit:
The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is pleased to present the annual exhibition by members of the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), Eastern Hub, entitled "Calm in the Chaos".
The exhibition explores a timely question: How do artists create when our present world is filled with conflict and chaos?
Through diverse perspectives and artistic approaches, working in acrylic and oil painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and collage, 14 members respond with works that seek balance, reflection, and resilience in the face of uncertainty. The exhibition invites viewers to pause, consider, and find moments of calm amid today’s turbulence.
About the Ontario Society of Artists:
Founded in 1872, the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) is Canada’s longest continuing art society, dedicated to fostering and promoting the visual arts across Ontario. Notable past members include Tom Thomson, Arthur Lismer, Frances Loring, Doris McCarthy, Jack Bush, and Harold Town.
With an elected membership of over 300 professional artists, the OSA has played a pivotal role in shaping the Canadian art landscape. The Society was instrumental in establishing several of the country’s most important cultural institutions, including the Toronto Art Museum (now the Art Gallery of Ontario), the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University), and the National Gallery of Canada.
Today, the OSA remains an inclusive, artist-led society, offering its members numerous opportunities to exhibit, collaborate, and connect through workshops, projects, conferences, lectures, and painting trips. The OSA established Eastern, Western, Northern regional hubs to engage with artists and communities more effectively.
