Susanne Langlois

Artist Bio

Susanne is a Canadian artist whose paintings are fresh and vibrant, expressive yet peaceful. She has been painting for over 20 years and currently works in three distinct styles: abstract, still life botanicals and contemporary landscape featuring wind turbines. Her wind turbines are noted for capturing not only a sense of beauty in a still-contentious subject matter, but also for conveying a sense of place. Says Langlois: “I love creating, but now more than ever one of the most important parts of my work is making connections with my audience and my clients through my art”. Recently Susanne’s wind turbine art graced the cover of the acclaimed Irish novel “Solar Bones”.

Artist Statement

I have been painting landscape paintings featuring wind turbines for several years now. When I began to do so it was a bit of a lightbulb moment....a way to inject a graphic, modern focal point into an abstracted landscape composition. Skies were squiggled and scraped and somewhat chaotic--there was a tension between the depth and content of the landscape image and the viewer's awareness of the surface of the canvas. My experimentation with abstract painting totally informed my landscape paintings. As I continued to paint them, my focus gradually leaned towards capturing light and depth in the landscape: the paintings became slightly less abstracted but still decidedly non-traditional in approach. The captured light evokes an overall feeling but the turbines themselves remain unexpected in landscape painting. As always when painting, I leap in with faith and await the unexpected.
