Artist Bio
Nadine Prada is lucky to be alive. In 2010, she survived an 8.8 earthquake and left her high profile job as an award-winning art director to devote her life to art making. Nadine’s work captures the awe, energy and wonder of what it feels like to be fully present in a place through the five senses, and how that can lead to experiences of transcendence.
Artist Statement
Up until now, most of my work has been about “elsewhere” – places that I traveled to that often reminded me of my original home as a child in the Caribbean. Lush, exotic destinations that brought the 5 senses to the forefront and sparked moments of such extreme presence that it was easy to share them in my art.
This series, however, is inspired by my peaceful home beside a meandering river, by the things I experience on my daily walks. The changing seasons, the plants and trees, the birds and animals that cross my path – even just sitting on the dock, doing nothing but staring out at the water. All these things have infused me and are spilling out as marks and gestures and brushstrokes in paint. It is my hope that the energy and aliveness found in these simple-yet-profound moments are transferred to you and become your own, through these pieces.
