Bootcamp participants get hands-on exploration of skilled trades

Submitted by Dan Vicente, Manager, Academic Labs – Technology and Trades

The Technology and Trades department hosted participants from KEYS Job Centre's Pre-Apprenticeship Program during two “Try a Trade” bootcamp sessions on June 9th and 12th.

This initiative offered KEYS pre-apprentices the chance to explore skilled trades through immersive, hands-on experiences in both the electrical and welding disciplines. Sessions were supported by our technical staff and faculty, utilizing our lab facilities to ensure a realistic and engaging introduction to the trades.

The goal of the bootcamp was to spark interest in skilled trades careers by giving participants a sense of what the work involves. From wiring circuits to fusing metal, participants worked directly with tools and techniques under the guidance of experienced professionals.

These sessions were made possible through a continued partnership with KEYS Job Centre, a local organization committed to connecting individuals with employment and training opportunities. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with KEYS and supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
