St. Lawrence College’s new specialty nursing program will provide Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses with critical care training to expand their practice in perianesthesia nursing.
The Perianesthesia Nursing graduate certificate program is delivered part-time online through SLC+ Continuing Education, providing a flexible learning opportunity for RNs and RPNs. The program will offer intakes in September, January, and May, with registration now open for the first intake in September 2024.
The one-year, four-course program begins with an overview of the foundational concepts followed by courses that progress through the same path as a patient would in this environment. By focusing on the pre, intra, and post-operative considerations for care provision, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of perianesthesia nursing using a case study-based approach. Cultural diversity and the care of special populations in the perianesthesia environment will be embedded within each course in the program.
The program is open to RNs and RPNs in Canada who have active registration (without restrictions) with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent. In addition to Perianesthesia Nursing, SLC offers several other specialty nursing graduate certificate programs, including Critical Care Nursing, RN Prescribing, RN Perioperative Nursing, and Practical Nurse Perioperative Nursing.
