Heading into the holiday season - a message to our SLC students

A pen sits on top of a red notebook beside an open laptop

Hello folks,

The fall semester is winding down and another holiday season is upon us already! This is an important month with many different religious holidays, customs, and observances coming up, so on behalf of the entire college team, I wish safe, restful, and happy celebrations to all.

As we reflect on the year 2022 and prepare for the New Year, I invite you to take a moment and watch the 2022 SLC Holiday video here. You will see each SLC campus shown in the footage, and it is a great way to remember some of the events of 2022.

As the semester begins to wind down, I would like to remind folks our SLC campuses are open until the end of December 21, after which the College will reduce operations for the holiday shut down.

From Thursday, December 22 until Tuesday, January 3 the main building doors will be locked, as systems like heating and lights are turned down to reduce energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while our main campus buildings are empty. We will welcome everyone back and be at full operating capacity the morning of Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

For students remaining in SLC residence over break, the Kingston residence front desk will be staffed 24/7 and is available if you need assistance. If you have questions about college holiday operating procedures, please speak to your residence team and remember to check your SLC email before the final day of term for any updates, while remembering college social media and URSLC as additional ways to stay informed of news over the holidays.

As this can be a hectic time of year, and some members of our community may be far from home, please remember the wellness and mental health resources available 24/7 over the break. Information is available here, and the Good2Talk Helpline can be reached by calling 1.866.925.5454 or visiting https://good2talk.ca/ Should you, or someone you know need help, please remember it is available at all hours, and is confidential and free of charge.

I will close by saying how grateful I am to you, our students for continuing to show inspiring dedication to your studies and who collectively make SLC campuses a vibrant and amazing place to be every day. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season,

Sincerely,

Glenn
