A partnership between the Kingston Film Commission and SLC’s Hairstyling program provided a placement opportunity for Hairstyling students Julia Gutz and Cassidy Phieffer to attend the hair and makeup of the cast of the movie SWEAT. Filmed on location at NGB Studios in Kingston, SWEAT tells the story of a group of women working in the garment industry and sets their individual aspirations against the demands of global capitalism. Now Hairstyling Diploma graduates, Julia Gutz and Cassidy Phieffer, as well as Hairstyling Program Coordinator Paula Dickson, attended the premiere of SWEAT at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival in March 2023.

"This was a first for our students. I’m so happy we were able to facilitate this exciting placement opportunity for Cassidy and Julia with the Kingston Film Commission,” said Paula. "As their placement facilitator, I helped guide them with the casting looks, schedules, and kept them fed while on set. But the hard work and hours on set are to be credited to them both. Being invited to the premiere alongside the cast was a great experience for us all."
