Students in the Perspectives of Leadership course in the Business Administration program, achieved an impressive milestone during the fall 2025 semester. As part of their studies, the student team conducted a leadership research project titled “The AI Era and Adaptive Leadership.”
This project was developed in collaboration with research led by Professor Denise Neilson and focused on a highly relevant question: How are leaders adapting to the emergence of artificial intelligence in their organizations and roles?
To answer, students designed and administered a survey to more than 50 business and community leaders across the Cornwall and Akwesasne region and completed a brief literature review. Their findings reflect the challenges and opportunities leaders face in today’s rapidly evolving workplace.
Key Themes from the Study
1. AI as an Efficiency Tool
Leaders see technology and AI as powerful tools to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
2. Awareness of Risks
There is strong recognition of risks related to AI, including trust, authenticity, and ethical considerations.
3. Balancing AI and Human Touch
Modern leadership requires blending AI capabilities with human-centered values to ensure transparency and integrity.
Student Anthony Conti shared his perspective:
“Our research on leadership in the AI era helped me understand how rapidly workplaces are evolving. It was exciting to explore how communication, ethics, and leadership styles must adapt as AI becomes more integrated into business.”
The project culminated in a final presentation attended by Xu Han, professor and Program Coordinator, who praised the students’ efforts:
“Students did great research on this current topic in a local community. They clearly presented the data, discussed the results, and made personal reflections on what they had learned from the project. This course is a showcase of our SLC mission: We are dedicated to student success, academic excellence, and leadership in our communities. I am proud of the students and proud of the faculty!”
This achievement highlights the commitment of our students and faculty to addressing real-world challenges and preparing future leaders for an era of rapid technological change.
