Job Title: Student Veterinary Technician Lab Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY
Reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, the student incumbent works up to 12-hours per week (may include evenings and/or weekends), providing assistance in greeting and guiding customers and performing limited administrative related tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer-service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.
The position assists the department with a variety of functions and services, such as animal care, animal colony monitoring and animal facility care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists with administrative-related and logistic tasks, including updating or entering data into specific systems, scheduling, and programming, preparing reports when required.
- Assists in providing care for cats and dogs on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Care includes providing enrichment, cleaning, feeding, medicating, and updating medical records.
- Assists in providing care of rodent colonies on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (feeding, watering, cage changing/washing, etc.). Weekday shifts may also be scheduled.
- Assist veterinary staff to monitor veterinary assistant, and veterinary technology students during scheduled colony experience times Monday to Friday
- Actively participate and staff committees as necessary and appropriate.
- Performs other miscellaneous, related duties as assigned by the designate (such as stocking labs and animal room, operating the cage washer and laundry units
- Monitor animal rooms to ensure welfare of housed animals.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Current or returning full-time students enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program with up-to-date vaccination status.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Time management, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, or collaboratively as part of a team.
- General knowledge of standard computer applications (MS word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
- High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements:
The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.
Salary & Terms
- Start Rate: $17.20/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
- Hours per week: 12

- Must be currently enrolled in Full-Time studies at St. Lawrence College.
- Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
