Designer Bio

Alison is a graphic designer born in Kingston, Ontario. In childhood, she scribbled pictures
for her grandparents’ refrigerator, and her high school art class never felt like an elective.
She has long been interested in creative pursuits, but something clicked when she began
studying graphic design at St. Lawrence College. In her second year, she received the Web
Design Scholarship for her strong academic performance and passion for web design. She
fell in love with typography, interaction design, and brand identity design, and she hopes her
future career involves all three. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games, reading,
and listening to podcasts
COURSE
Typography IV / Final Portfolio
OBJECTIVE
Design a campaign for a fictional Canadian conference about equity, diversity, and inclusion
(EDI).
DESCRIPTION
The main design concept behind the visuals is arts and crafts, a form of artistic creation that
almost anyone can participate in. The colours combined with the paper textures invoke
imagery of children playing with construction paper, who are commonly underrepresented in
EDI conversations. The primary typeface used for the text is “Atkinson Hyperlegible”, an
accessible font family designed for and by people with visual impairments.
COURSE
Interaction Design IV
OBJECTIVE
Design a prototype for an educational app that focuses on teaching one clear learning
outcome by guiding the user through a single task sequence.
DESCRIPTION
Sprout is an app for North American preteens and teenagers meant to complement the
sexual education taught in public schools. The visual design is based on the idea of growth,
an allusion to puberty as well as knowledge. The prototype guides the user through a
learning module about contraception. After the level is complete, the user can do an optional
quiz and then continue to the next level.
COURSE
Brand Identity Design I
OBJECTIVE
Redesign a logo for an existing corporation, and then apply the new branding to a stationery
set
DESCRIPTION
Titan Logix is a Canadian company that develops hardware and software to monitor fluid in
transport vehicles. The logo’s symbol is based on Saturn’s moon, Titan, that shares a name
with the company. The symbol is angled to represent the movement of fluid being
transported, and the lines represent speed. The typeface used is “Noka” which features a
unique character for “x.” It is highlighted in the chosen red hue to balance out the red moon.
