The City of Kingston is working with residents and community partners to offer programming that recognizes Emancipation Day in 2023. This year’s theme is ‘Thriving In Colour' as a celebration of the resiliency of the Black community despite the ongoing fight against anti-Black racism and discrimination. Emancipation Day is in recognition of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 which came into effect across the British Empire.All SLC community members are invited to participate in this significant celebration happening on Saturday, July 29 from 10 am-6 pm at Confederation Park (downtown Kingston).For our Cornwall and Brockville community members, there will be a bus available that will pick up from each campus, drop off at Confederation Park and return to Brockville and Cornwall in the afternoon. Seats are limited, so registration will be required.
