Artist Bio

Gabrielle Romaniuk is an artist born out of Orillia, Ontario. She currently practices in Brockville and is enrolled in the Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College and is prepared to graduate June 2026. Within the last few years Gabrielle had the opportunity to work with many different mediums including Acrylic, Oils, Watercolour, Graphite, Charcoal, Mixed media, 3D design as well as Printmaking. Gabrielle started creating from a young age after meeting a book illustrator who was a substitute teacher for her grade 5 class. He, as well as her high school art teacher, have been big influences in her art career as they kept her creating art.

A big inspiration for Gabrielle growing up was Anita Leeman-Mcgarvey who is an artist from her home town. Anita creates really beautiful watercolour pieces and explores similar themes as Gabrielle. The theme explored in most of her pieces is nature. She grew up in a small town with many pretty views and a love for travelling. A lot of her work are places she has been and memories she likes to keep close to her heart. She is also starting to explore themes with philosophical meaning as it is becoming a big part of her life. She has had some experience in group exhibitions at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery as well as completed a group mural project. She has also helped with the restoration of a mural within the Brockville community.

Artist Statement

I am an artist currently working out of Brockville, Ontario. The themes I have and are exploring in my work include nature and landscapes as well as philosophical meaning. I like to create landscapes of the places I’ve been to capture memories as well as the feelings associated with that scenery. Philosophy is also a big part of my life, and I love that it challenges me to think about the world from a different perspective and I’d like to bring it to others’ lives.

The medium I have been currently working in has been painting mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, and oil painting. The series I have started to plan involves landscapes and explores themes of feelings we have towards the landscapes and why. I am having a lot of fun implementing both landscapes and philosophical themes within a piece and I plan to continue exploring this in the future.

Some past works I have done mostly involve landscapes from my time in the Adirondack Mountains in New York as well as a cityscape series that explored themes or Sonder. I do enjoy doing mountainscapes and that’s what I have focused on throughout the last few years. I also do commission work of all sorts.
