Peggy Collins, professor in the Graphic Design program, has won the 2022 American Library Association (ALA) Schieder Family Book Award for Young Children. Peggy teaches Drawing for Designers and Design Illustration.
“In A Sky-Blue Bench, Bahram Rahman, author of the award-winning The Library Bus, returns again to his homeland, Afghanistan, to reveal the resilience and resolve of young children—especially young girls—who face barriers to education. Being back at school is especially challenging for young amputee Aria, whose new prosthesis makes sitting on the hard classroom floor much too painful to learn. As Aria sets out to build herself a bench to succeed at school, illustrator Peggy Collins imbues her with an infectious spunkiness and grit that make her relatable even to readers with a very different school experience,” according to the Pajama Press news release.
