On Thursday, February 1 the Off-Campus Housing Department hosted a SpacesShared Information Session in the Innovation Hub (Kingston Campus). SpacesShared is a home sharing technology platform that matches students looking for safe and affordable housing with older adults interested in sharing their home.

Several community members and local organizations attended the event to learn more about the launch of this new initiative within the city of Kingston. CEO of SpacesShared, Rylan Kinnon, discussed the benefits of home sharing, the process of becoming a host, and the resources available to both students and hosts who utilize the platform. If you or someone you know has a room for rent in their home, signing up to become a host online is a free and simple process.

SLC is teaming up with this Toronto-based company in an effort to expand the affordable living options available to students across tri-campus. “We are excited to be partnering with SpacesShared to bring this innovative housing solution to our students,” said Ross McMillan, Director of Student Success & Services. Information Sessions will be held at both Cornwall and Brockville campuses in March – details to follow. Watch the Global News coverage of the information session here

Collaborating with SpacesShared is just one of the many ways that St. Lawrence College is working to provide creative housing solutions for its students. The Off-Campus Housing Department also offers a variety of resources for domestic and international students, including but not limited to assistance navigating the housing market, tenant rights and responsibilities, rental applications, lease agreements, and tips for moving in/out. Services are offered tri-campus and are available year-round. If staff or faculty know of a student who could benefit from housing assistance, please connect them with our dedicated Off-Campus Housing Coordinators, Krystal O'Farrell (Kingston Campus) and Caitlin Mesman (Cornwall & Brockville Campuses).
