The annual Queen’s University Principal’s Teaching and Learning Awards recognize educators and staff who advance innovative, engaging approaches to student learning. This year, SLC’s Dr. Lindsay Brant, Director, Indigenous Initiatives, was honoured with the Indigenous Education Award, presented in partnership with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives.
Lindsay shares this recognition with the Indigenous Health Professions Education course team, developers of a 3.0‑unit graduate course in the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) program.
The course introduces health educators to Indigenous perspectives in healthcare, with a specific focus on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, including Call 22 on Indigenous healing practices. It equips health professions educators with the knowledge and tools to teach from an Indigenous perspective and meaningfully integrate these approaches into clinical education settings.
Lindsay has been part of the course design team and served as an advisor to the MHPE program since its inception. The Pedagogy of Peace (PoP) model she developed forms the foundation of the program’s structure, content, and courses—ensuring Indigenous knowledges and perspectives are woven throughout the curriculum.
