Fine Art Students Show Off Their 'Fancy Pants'

SLC’s second-year Fine Art students are getting creative not only with their assignments, but in the materials they use. Students are using common materials and objects found around the house to create works of art such as portraits made from denim. Over the course of three weeks, students painstakingly placed each piece of denim to reflect the shape and colour of their designs inspired by the work of English artist, Ian Berry.

Experimenting with different materials allows students to bridge the gap between 2D and 3D designs and inspire work with new materials many of which are not art mediums at all. Working with found objects and untraditional mediums creates a dialogue between viewer and artist and provides the student with new creative tools that they can then apply to other creative projects in the future.

Students are using Instagram as a way of sharing images and to build social media content as they prepare for the Business of Art course in the winter term.
