The 13th annual SLC Accounting Case Competition was held virtually this past week, from Thursday, February 11 to Saturday, February 12, 2022. Third year Business Administration – Accounting program student teams from both Kingston and Cornwall campuses participated in this incredible action-oriented learning opportunity.

During the competition, participants are tasked with analyzing a “real-world” case study and present their findings to a panel of judges comprised of accounting professionals and employers. The competing teams are given the opportunity to showcase their critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills to the judges. This event contributes to the on-going experiential learning of our students and reinforces real-world skills that are necessary for success in an accounting career.

Congratulations to the top 3 teams:

  • 1st place: Steph Koziar, Mark Barron, and Michael Simms
  • 2nd place: Katia Balashova, Jocelyn Xuan, and Ashleigh Challinor
  • 3rd place: Alexie Lariviere, Mathieu Genier, and Renesha Pompey

"This event forces students out of their comfort zone and we push students off the cliff so that they realize that they are able to thrive in a stressful situation and to accomplish amazing results. Year after year, our judges are amazed by the accomplishments and talent of our students," said Lisa Knechtle-Jerkiewicz, Program Coordinator & Professor, Accounting Programs at SLC. "It also is an event that showcases what a great community and network we have of students, faculty, graduates, and employers. The event brings everyone together. Many of our graduates have commented that the accounting competition was one of the highlights in the Business Administration – Accounting program."

Thank you to all the volunteers, judges, and the sponsorship from CPA Ontario for making this event possible.
