St. Lawrence College is proud to announce that Emma Amalfi, a student in its Esthetician program has won a gold medal at the Skills Canada competition held at the end of May.
Emma first competed at the provincial Skills Ontario Competition, where she earned a gold medal and secured her place on Team Ontario. She then advanced to the Skills Canada National Competition, held in Toronto on May 28–29, 2026, as part of a delegation of 131 competitors representing Ontario to compete against the best esthetician students from across the country.
"Emma delivered an outstanding performance, and her success is a testament to her dedication, perseverance, professionalism, and countless hours of preparation," said Dr. Aba Mortley, SLC’s Esthetician Program Coordinator. “Her achievement reflects not only her individual commitment to excellence but also the strength of the St. Lawrence College Esthetician program and the support network behind her.”
In the Esthetics category, Emma showcased her skills in treatments such as facials, manicures, makeup, and body treatments. Competitors were judged on sanitation, time management, client comfort and care, client communication, and more.
“My experience at the kills competition was more than I could have hoped for,” Emma said. “It was well worth the long and hard training. Thanks to the dedication of my trainers at SLC, I was able to show my skill in a place where I would be recognized for my efforts, which made this experience so rewarding.”
Emma was supported by many faculty, technicians, and staff including the skills competition training team of Paisley Mattes, Diana Boboti-Senis, Elisabeth Gingras, and Katie Salamone, Geoff Phof with laboratory support and assistance with equipment and ordering, and Aidan Wornes, Associate Dean, with continued support of the program.
"Emma's gold medal is a wonderful example of the calibre of our students,” said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. “At St. Lawrence College, our faculty and staff are focused on student success, delivering high-quality, practical programs, and we couldn't be prouder of Emma and everyone who supported her on this journey."
