New certification gives graduates competitive edge​

After an extensive curriculum review, graduates from the Therapeutic Recreation program at St. Lawrence College (SLC) are now able to apply for the registration designation with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). The curriculum offered by SLC provides the education and practical experience required by TRO for registration. 

“Receiving this certification puts our graduates ahead in terms of employability,” said Louise ChattertonLuchuk, Associate Dean, School of Community Services at SLC. “The registration designation demonstrates excellence in the field of Therapeutic Recreation, and we are very pleased with this positive outcome.”

“We’re thrilled that SLC has earned this certification,” said Rozalyn Werner-Arcé, Executive Director, Therapeutic Recreation Ontario. “We know that graduates coming into the field are fully equipped and meet the professional requirements to succeed and offer the highest level of care to their clients.”

Offered on the Kingston campus, the Therapeutic Recreation program is a one-year (three semester) graduate certificate program that prepares students with specializedevidence-based training to utilize recreation to maximize independence and promote an optimal leisure lifestyle that contributes to the well-being and quality of life of clients.
