We recently caught up with alumnus Tim Porter, a 2007 graduate of Music Theatre–Performance, and a 2024 Premier’s Award nominee in the Creative Arts and Design category. A seasoned arts professional, Tim has spent more than two decades championing and innovating within Canadian theatre. Just one year after graduating from SLC, he founded Tweed & Company Theatre, which has grown into a thriving organization known for producing and presenting high-quality theatrical experiences across Ontario. Throughout his career, Tim has written numerous stage productions and directed a wide range of successful shows, leaving a lasting impact on the Canadian arts community.
Tim is bringing the Tweed & Company performance of Million Dollar Quartet to the Brockville Arts Centre on Oct 2 and 3 and to other locations in Ontario.
You have a new show touring across Ontario. Tell us about Million Dollar Quartet and what audiences can expect.
Million Dollar Quartet is a rock-and-roll musical theatre extravaganza, with epic tunes from start to finish. It follows Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins during a once in a lifetime recording session based on true events. With a cast of eight who play the instruments, act, and sing live each night, it is a truly remarkable stage production and is not to be missed.
What other exciting projects are you working on (with Tweed & Company or otherwise)?
In 2022, Tweed & Company assumed operations of the Bancroft Village Playhouse and the Marble Arts Centre in Tweed, and we are now a year-round operation presenting musical theatre, concerts, comedy, film, local events, and more. We just completed a HUGE summer production of Fiddler on the Roof, which featured some current SLC students, and we are currently preparing for our annual holiday pantomime as well. Next season will be one of our largest yet, with some of the biggest titles we have ever presented and new venues on the horizon... it is always an exciting time at Tweed & Company!
Are any other SLC graduates involved in this production, either on stage or behind the scenes?
I don't believe we have any other SLC grads involved in this production; however, throughout our season we continue to work with countless SLC alumni!
If you could describe the vibe of Million Dollar Quartet in one word, what would it be?
ELECTRIC!
