Innovative Placements Expand Student Learning Opportunities

SLC’s Fitness and Health Promotion (FAHP) program continues to find innovative and impactful student placements with hands-on experience working in fitness facilities, alongside personal trainers, athletic therapy clinics, and varsity athletics.

Students working with varsity team's therapist support athletes during competitions by responding to injuries, assessing conditions, and assisting with treatment. These placements are particularly valuable for students planning to pursue Athletic Therapy, as they can complete the 100 practical hours required for program applications.

Others FAHP students design and lead programs to improve the strength and speed of varsity athletes while tracking progress. Completing this placement also prepares students to apply for certification with the Ontario Fitness Council.

Students interested in education and instruction, placements include working with elementary and secondary students. This year more than 400 students visited our Kingston campus for a full day of activities—all designed and led by FAHP students.

Many SLC employees have participated as clients at the SHAC with student personal trainers and group fitness instructors, creating individualized programs, leading training sessions, and delivering group fitness classes.

These diverse placement opportunities allow students to align learning with career goals, build professional confidence, and make meaningful contributions benefiting both our students and the communities they serve.
